Canada: List of products from the United States subject to 25 per cent tariffs effective March 13, 2025
Effective March 13, 2025, the Government of Canada is imposing 25 per cent tariffs on $29.8 billion in products imported from the United States (U.S.). These tariffs only apply to goods originating from the U.S., which shall be considered as those goods eligible to be marked as a good of the U.S. in accordance with the Determination of Country of Origin for the Purpose of Marking Goods (CUSMA Countries) Regulations. These countermeasures are effective as of 12:01 a.m., March 13, 2025, and will remain in place until the U.S. eliminates its tariffs against Canadian steel and aluminum products. Canada's countermeasures do not apply to U.S. goods that are in transit to Canada on the day on which they come into force. For the list of HTS please click here.
European Commission customs tariff update
European Commission authority has updated the import tariff. Update includes the changes in the general duty rates, preferential duty rates and preferential tariff quota for various product classified under the tariff chapters 03, 07, 08, 16, 39, 56 etc.
India Customs tariff update
- India seeks to amend notification No. 27/2011-Customs dated 01.03.2011 to withdraw the export duty of 20% on Onion (HS 0703 10) from 1 St April, 2025.
- India seeks to amend Notification 64/2023-Customs to extend concessional duty on Yellow Peas till 31st May, 2025.
- India seeks to amend import duty on Lentils (Mosur).

South Africa Customs tariff update – Increase in the VAT rate from 01 May 2025
In the Minister’s Budget speech on 12 March 2025, two increases in the standard rate of VAT were announced. The first rate increase of 0.5% applies from 1 May 2025, and the second rate increase of 0.5% will apply from 1 April 2026. The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) in this document have been compiled on the basis of questions that vendors and the public at large are likely to have about the implications of the rate increase. However, unless otherwise indicated, this document only illustrates the impact of the first rate increase effective from 1 May 2025. More guidance on the second-rate increase will be communicated in due course.
United Kingdom Customs tariff update
An Excise measure has been added to Commodity Code 2204219521 to fix missing excise type X333. The change will come into effect on CDS as of 4 March 2025. An Excise measure has been added to Commodity code 2103903000: Aromatic bitters of an alcoholic strength by volume of 44.2 to 49.2% vol containing from 1.5 to 6% by weight of gentian, spices, and various ingredients and from 4 to 10% of sugar, in containers holding 0.5 litre or less. The change will come into effect on CDS on 9 April 2025.
United States customs tariff update
On March 4, 2025 and March 7, 2025, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) implemented five Presidential Executive Orders implementing tariff updates for imports from China, Hong Kong, Canada, and Mexico. Pursuant to these Executive Orders, CBP is collecting the following additional tariffs on imports from Mexico, Canada, and China under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act:
- Additional 25% tariffs on goods that do not satisfy U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) rules of origin.
- A lower, additional 10% tariff on energy products imported from Canada that fall outside the USMCA preference.
- A lower, additional 10% tariff on potash imported from Canada and Mexico that falls outside the USMCA preference.
- Additional 20% on goods from China and Hong Kong (increased from 10% on March 4).
- Effective March 7, 2025, no additional tariffs are due on goods from Canada and Mexico that qualify for the USMCA preference.
The rules that govern whether a product qualifies for USMCA preference are unchanged by the recent tariff updates and are found in 19 CFR 182. These tariff updates have been implemented on the effective date and as such, there is no retroactive application. For more details, please refer CBP
