At the heart of CATTS’ operations in Jaipur, India, you’ll find Dinesh Soni: A calm, focused force behind the smooth delivery of global trade services. Since joining CATTS in 2018, Dinesh has grown through the ranks, taking on increasing responsibilities across customs operations. Today, as Operations Manager, he ensures that everything from product classification and broker coordination to customs filing and compliance consultancy runs with accuracy, efficiency, and purpose.
With a foundation in international finance and experience supporting foreign exchange and trade activities, Dinesh developed a strong interest in the mechanics of global commerce. What motivates him is more than just keeping things compliant: It’s about building operational processes that are practical, scalable, and genuinely helpful for the teams and clients who rely on them.
From Curiosity to Career
Dinesh’s journey into the field began with a trade finance certification that sparked his interest in the mechanics behind cross-border business. “It described the financial instruments and techniques used to facilitate international trade, and it really deepened my curiosity,” he recalls. Joining CATTS gave him the opportunity to apply that interest directly to customs and compliance.
Today, he oversees day-to-day operations while also contributing to larger consultancy efforts and process development.
Experience That Drives Excellence
Before CATTS, Dinesh worked in global finance and foreign exchange operations, experience that taught him how to manage pressure, deadlines, and high volumes. “It also gave me the chance to work with international teams and understand different cultures and working styles,” he says.
That global mindset carries into his leadership today, where he promotes open communication, team trust, and a strong sense of accountability. “I make an effort to understand my team’s concerns, support their balance, and raise issues when needed, that’s how we stay aligned and productive.”
Enjoying the Work, Enjoying the Team
What motivates Dinesh most is variety and collaboration. “The opportunity to support different projects and processes keeps things dynamic and helps me grow. I also really enjoy learning from my team and sharing knowledge.”
A moment that stands out was during a client emergency, when they suddenly found themselves without an internal operations team to support. “Coordinating everything in such a situation was challenging, but together we adjusted our schedules and stepped in to keep their operations running without disruption or delays” he recalls.
It’s this kind of adaptability and shared responsibility that fuels his belief in teamwork. “We listen, support, and solve problems together as a team, and that makes the difference.”
Trust, Autonomy, and a Shared Mission
At CATTS, Dinesh appreciates the balance between ownership and support. “The absence of micromanagement creates an environment where I feel empowered to take responsibility. I also value the mutual respect among colleagues and the encouragement to explore and learn.”
He sees his role as tightly aligned with CATTS’ mission to deliver high-quality services at scale. “In operations, I help ensure our processes are efficient, reliable, and scalable, while staying compliant and focused on service quality.”
Always Improving, Always Learning
In a fast-evolving field, staying current is essential. Dinesh keeps learning through trade regulation updates, webinars, and internal discussions. “I also learn a lot from real-time challenges. When we face issues as a team, we talk them through, share ideas, and come out with better solutions.”
He’s also keeping an eye on the role of new technologies. “With the rapid advancement in tools like AI, automation, and business analytics, it’s important to make time for learning. These can really add value to our work and decision-making.”
Outside work, he values time with family and follows the stock market. “It keeps me mentally engaged and continuously learning,” he says.
Looking Ahead
Dinesh sees a future where he continues to grow as a subject matter expert in trade and customs. “I want to stay closely involved in both operational processes and consultancy work. There’s still a lot to learn, and I’m excited by that.”
He’s also looking forward to internal team initiatives. “Things like our upcoming sustainability activities and team sports events help build engagement beyond day-to-day work. That’s something I really value.”
Wisdom and Advice
Dinesh believes in consistency and staying open to learning. “Pay close attention to the details, listen to your teammates, and don’t shy away from challenges, they’re often the best opportunities for growth.”
Two mottos guide his mindset: “An attitude of gratitude” and “Honesty is the best policy.” “Being thankful and staying transparent have always helped me stay grounded, build trust, and handle challenges effectively,” he says.
